Shingen TakedaShingen Takeda, born in 1521 in the city of Kofu, became Daimyo of Kai in 1541 when he deposed his father. He was ambitious, a brilliant strategist and a formidable leader; his political savy however did not measure up to his military might. He was involved in numerous albeit fruitless encounters with the Hojo, Imagawa, Tokugawa and Oda clans. But his most intense rivalry was with Uesugi Kenshin, Daimyo of Echigo. They confronted each other five times at Kawanakajima. The fourth battle is the most memorable and among the most famous in japanese history. Through the years they developed great respect for each other. Salt was an important commodity in Japan especially in the mountainous areas such as Kai where it was difficult to obtain. Several of Takeda's enemies had decided to blockade the import of salt to Kai. When he heard of this Uesugi decided to send salt to Takeda saying that he did not want his enemy vanquished by a salt blockade but through Yumi-Ya (military confrontation). In appreciation Takeda presented Uesugi with a now famous blade the Kou-no-Tachi. Years later upon hearing of Shingen's death Uesugi is said to have wept at the loss of his "best enemy". During his reign Shingen built Yogai castle in Kofu. He resided on the shores of lake Suwa strategically located and within view of mount Fuji. It is while reading Sun Tzu`s Art of War that he found what would become his famous Furin Kazan: Swift as the wind Quiet as the forest Fierce as fire Immovable as a mountain A sniper's bullet put an end to his life during the siege of Noda castle in april of 1573 as he approached enemy lines to listen to a defender playing his flute. His death was kept a secret for two years and the leadership of the clan was assumed by his son Katsuyori. The celebrated japanese movie director, Kurosawa, made this incident the subject of a remarkable film: Kagemusha. In february of 1574, in accordance with Shingen's last will, Kunitsugo Takeda, Shingen's nephew was welcomed to Aizu by Daimyo Moriuji Ashina an old friend of Shingen. Katsuyori besieged the castle of Nagashino in june 1575 against an alliance formed by Oda Nobugana. On the morning of june 29 1575 the famed cavalry of the Takeda clan charged in the direction of the Rengogawa river which had been laden with ropes by the defenders. This slowed them down considerably, they where now easy targets for the 3,000 arquebusiers that where waiting for them. They were slaughtered. Katsuyori retreated to Kai. The combined forces of Oda and Tokugawa invaded Kai and defeated him in 1582. Katsuyori committed seppuku. This was the end of the Takeda clan as a military force.

KunoichiA kunoichi is a female ninja. As with the male ninja, they were spies and helped with the ninja's fight (in various different ways) against the samurai. Mistress of deception and 'flowery combat' were among their skills. She was a spy, messenger and observer. Her training, although similar to her male counterparts, focused more on the psychological techniques, including manipulation, disguise, feminine charm and the use of female intuition. They were also taught how to not only play with the emotions of others, but to keep their own emotions in check - they were not allowed to fall in love with their targets!! Female ninja were classified as part of the kamae of sui (water) and were cultivate to manipulate energy through preying on increased feelings of emotional satisfaction; like the ocean, they would draw out, only to come back, like a wave at riptide, in unexpected ways. these women, or kunoichi as they were called, were given special training in psychological skills and intuition. Taught to manipulate men high-up in the enemy hierarchy, they were known to conceal blades inside musical instruments and sex toys. Shimma kunoichi, ninja family members, were trained as spies who were taught not to fall in love with their targets or lose sight of their ultimate goal after successful seduction. Often head female agents were sent around the country to collect young female orphans, whom they raised with care. These orphan girls were forever indebted to their agents and would do whatever they were asked in terms of seducing men. Karima kunoichi were women who were not part of the clan but were temporarily hired as maids, mistresses, entertainers, fortunetellers, prostitutes, or artists. In contemporary times, female ninja often fulfill the same roles as men, working in security and law enforcement. Apparently, one of the favourite weapons for a kunoichi was the neko-te (cat hand). The neko-te were usually used by the female ninja. The weapon is strong iron fingernails that were fastened into leather bands fitted on the fingers, and resembled claws (not that like or of the shuko, ashiko) and were also dipped in poisons. The eyes were a favorite spot for slashing. In Japanese, the 'ku' is written in hirigana, 'no' in katakana and 'ichi' in kanji - add the three together, and you get the Japanese word (in kanji) for woman!

Hanzo Hattori (Hanzo's grave) Born in 1542 to a retainer of Tokugawa Ieyasu. After his father's death, Hanzo replaced his father in the service of Ieyasu, leading Iga warriors. His nickname was Oni (devil) Hanzo. After his death in the fourth day of the eleven month of 1596, he was given the posthumous name Sainen. At the age of 16, Hanzo successfully led a band of Iga warriors, which earned him his first recognition as a commander. In the first month of 1569 he attacked Kakegawa castle, and in the sixth month of 1570 Hanzo led his warriors in the battle of Anegawa in which Oda Nobunaga annihilated the forces of Asai Nagamasa and Asakura Yoshikage. His defining moment came in 1582 when Tokugawa Ieyasu was accused of not rushing to avenge the assassination of Oda Nobunaga at Honnoji. At that time, Ieyasu needed help to escape to his home base in Mikawa province, and it was Hanzo with the help of his Iga warriors who provided Ieyasu with protection and safe passage through the mountains of Iga. For his role in protecting Ieyasu he received 8,000 koku of land. Then, after Tokugawa Ieyasu entered the Kanto region, he officially appointed Hanzo to command thirty horsemen and 200 special Iga warriors. Hanzo's warriors were charged with guarding the gate to Edo castle, Ieyasu's headquarters. The gate is known today as Hanzomon, or "Hanzo Gate."

might i say but yukimura was one of the greatest samurai in the history of japan.... until his dying day he fought aginst the tokugawa but it was indecivness on hideyoshi's part and tokugawa deciving him that forced the final battle apon yukimura sanada... in the battle just outside of oasaka he sat onhis war stool exhausted from countless fighting and a enemy warrior poised his spear and charged yukimura.... he say "i am no doubt more then a advisary for you but i am to tired to carry on..." with that he took of his helmet and exposed his neck..... the enemy warrior took no reward for taking yukimura.....
and shingen and kenshin were more then rivals they were great freinds... when the oda and the hojo were besiging takeda from the sea ports kenshin sent him carts of salt and said "i fight wars with the sword not with salt" thus sparing the takeda from starvation
at nagashino 10,000 takeda soilders died because of katsuyori's foolish mistake even though baba nobufusa and the other retainers urged him not to..... after the loss baba took his 80 men and when katsuyori was saftley away he shouted "i am baba nobufusa governer of mino take me if you can" and they killed him and all his men

oh ya after shingen deposed his father he took up refuge with yoshimoto imagawa
the hojo prefered to be called the go-hojo to seperate themselves from the hojo shoganate family
kenshin was actually born into the nagao family but was adopted into uesugi
oda nobunaga was not an ambitious man and actually didn't want to inherite teh oda domain but after a respected retainer commited suicide in an effort to change nobunaga he changed and became the 1st of the 3 unifyers*
toyotomi build oaska castle and was the 2nd of the 3 unifyers and he was an expert stratigist..... he was origanally and ashigaru comander but he rose through the ranks and after aketchi mitsuhide killed nobunaga hideyoshi killed aketchi..... osaka castle was and still is the most powerfull castle in all of japan with only 2 entrences and 3 walls to the inner grounds it stands 5 levels and 8 stories
