I just find that Nintendo relies too much of their characters and that think that a new Mario game or Mario Party game will keep the fans occupied... if the game looks bad in the process, SLAP a famous Nintendo character on the cover and it's sure to sell, like Starfox Adventures. It was originally a game of its own, until they decided that it wasnt going to sell unless they had a big shot Nintendo made character on it. So, since the main character, Saber/Sabre, looked like Fox McCloud, it went from 'Adventure on Dinosaur Planet' to 'Star Fox Adventures'... which is NOT Starfox (sure, few times in an Arwing doesn't make it Starfox, though I did like the stick... THAT was fun). That's Nintendo's strategy... so usually the games that don't have Mario, Wario, Yoshi, DK, Link, or Starfox on it, changes are that they won't be 'popular' and they'll eventually STOP making anything that doesn't ahve those famous Nintendo characters in it. At least that's what I fear is going to happen soon. Well, thats the truth. Why do you think they released a Mario game when the Gamecube, the GBA, and the N64 came out? You didn't see another console adventure Mario game until the Cube was released. Anyone notice that? You know they'll do it again when the next console is released, too.

It wouldn't bother me much if they actually had OTHER games that doesn't have the ever so famous plumber man or the green elf boy in the tights. I heard rumors that Nintendo is planning ANOTHER console soon... am I wrong to think that they JUST came out w/ the Gamecube?! Give the game a few years before coming up with another system, will you?

But the Playstation 2 lasted at least longer than the Gamecube has... how old is the Gamecube? A year, 2 maybe? Wait five years at least before upgrading the system... or something. And another problem I find w/ Nintendo is that they're not backwards compatible. If the Playstation 3 comes out and it's backwards compatible, I can just trade in my PS2, save up a little, and then get the PS3. Unlike Nintendo... if you want the new Mario game, get to work on saving up and buying the new system and the new game. Squaresoft is a gaming company. Nintendo is a game consule company. There's a difference... the PS2 doesn't evolve around Final Fantasy like the Gamecube evolves around Mario and his gain. I agree that they do have good games, but I think they should lay off Mario for a little while and do more Metroid or Animal Crossing.

nintendo is both a game maker and a console maker, so there's lil difference, just that nintendo games r exclusive 2 their system. square's existence revolves around final fantasy. and it's not nintendo's fault that a char is so popular that he sells games. really if u only count true mario games, there's only been one 4 each recent system: super mario 64 and super mario sunshine. and it's kinda hard 2 make a nintendo console backwards compatable because nintendo has been around SO long they used 2 use cartridges, unlike sony who when they started used cd's. and i really don't care about backwards compatability, since i keep all my consoles. i still play psx discs on psx. and x-box came out around the same time gc did, and they will prob release their new system around the same time. besides, sony released ps2 way 2 early, consider urself lucky u didn't buy the early versions. the new gc won't be here that soon anyway. www.theregister.co.uk/content/54/35460.html

Mario 64, Super Mario Kart 64, how many Mario Parties? Mario Gold, Paper Mario, Mario Tennis, Super Smash Brothers, Super Mario Sunshine, Super Smash Brothers Melee, mario Katy Double Dash, and the most recent Mario Party. Count that up... more than 4.
And I know that it's hard to have Nintendo go backwards compatible. That's why I don't LIKE the system anymore; eventually they stop selling the NES and the SNES games... do you realize how hard it is now to find 64 games?! I mean, how long did the 64 last? Not half as long as the original NES did, that's for sure. I'm proud that Nintendo decided to start making mini discs and not cartridges as they should last longer and hold more stuff. Good for them. Now, what the hell do I do with the now useless cartridges of the NES, SNES, and 64? Not to mention having to plug in and out ALL of the systems. With the PS2, all you ahve to do is change memory cards and the game, not pull out the other system, set it up, change the station to whatever it's suppose to be, and spend half the time BLOWING in the thing in order to play.
I find the PS2 easier to maintain then most of the Nintendo systems. I personally love some original NES games, but I don't really care to spend a few mintues of my playing time hocking the thing up and blowing in the game and the cartridge. Something easy, can do CDs, DVDs, and games, and is backwards compatible. You get a game system, a CD player, and a DVD player all in one, while in the Gamecube, you get a game. Want to play DVDs? Buy a DVD player for the same amount. Want to listen to a CD? Buy a CD player. Want a game? After buying the console, the CD player, and the DVD player, will you HAVE enough to buy a game?
XBOx... I don't care WHAT people say... give the thing a monitor and it's now a handy-dandy computer! Now... if they would shrink the SIZE of the console, perhaps I'd get one, because as of now, I haven't SPACE for the thing on my entertainment center. (I'll admit that Nintendo was intellegent and made the Gamecube small... great for them!).

i said true mario games, which means those of the platform kind. and i don't have 2 pull my nes and so on out all the time, mine r all linked w/ r/f switches, all in a row w/ my psx, ps2, genesis, and dreamcast. and it can be hard 2 find psx games as well, no 2 mention once they're scratched, it's over, i now i have a worthless ff7. and i'm glad the gc doesn't have a dvd and cd. i already have a dvd and cd player. i bought the system 2 play games, not listen 2 music. and it's not really fair 2 compare the old nintendo systems w/ modern ones. blowing in games is one memory i'll never 4 get. hmmmm.....obviously there is a difference between the hardcore gamer and the casual gamer.

Wow, there you go, putting other people down again. You got to realize that not everyone is made out of money. It's not like I can AFFORD to buy every single system that comes out every 3-5 years or so, and because of the fact that I can't afford to buy a lot of games, I actually TAKE CARE of my stuff. The difference between a casual gamer and a hardcore gamer is money. I love games, but I literally canNOT afford to buy a new system every so often. I can't afford to have a different CD Player, or a different DVD player, so I went what had the most and what was cheapest for me, the person who doesn't have all the frickin' money in the world. So don't be telling me that I'm a casual gamer jsut because I'm not willing to shell out $200 dollars every 3-5 years for a new system that will be useful for about a few years, then trashed when the NEW one comes out. And cartridges don't last forever too... I took care of mine, and there are still a few that can never work again. FF7 doesn't cost that much if you look in the right palces... I got mine for $15, used, and in mint condition. You have a better change replacing a PS2 or Xbox CD than a Nintendo cartridge nowadays...

when did i ever say that i had money? u just blew everything i said way out of proportion. i only meant hardcore gamers hold onto their old stuff even when something new comes out. and all i did 2 my ff7 was drop it once and that one scratch made it freeze on the opening cinema. and don't be putting me down just cuz i prefer buying a new game over eating a few meals. THAT is whay i mean by hardcore gamer. yeeesh

I would probably hold ON to my stuff more if I could actually get the things to work and not spend half of my free time trying to GET the old system to work. Did you know that my NES is a fire hazard?! I have to clear off EVERYTHING from my entertainment center, clean away all the dust, unhook the other systems, and then, after cleaning and making sure anything flamable is away from the thing, I send the rest of the time blowing into the game, only to put it in and have to go off to school or some other activity.
I wouldn;t be so ubset if I could go get it fixed, or even trade it in for a new system. But guess what... no one SELLS them anymore, and getting one on Ebay isn't the best thing to do either (I don't TRUST those guys).
And sorry if I blew everything out of proportion. I just get frustrated that I can't play half of the games I want to anymore because of the days that have grown onto them, and no matter how good I take CARE of them, it's still going to fade out and I know that there is no (cheap) way to replace them.
