This is a topic concerning Cao Cao the notorious leader of Wei, and the man who made the emperor a puppet leader. Was Cao Cao's methods correct, did he go too far in some of his actions and were his strategies sucessful.
The topic is open for debate please add your feelings.

CaoCao is a very impressive individual in my opinion. Not a bloodline to the han, but he would use common people instead of only taking officers from famous families. He was against all odds when he first Held the emperor, with the much more powerful YuanShao in the north, LuBu, LiuBiao, YuanShu, ZhangLu directly threathening his position. He defeated nearly all of them directly or indirectly and made himself the master of the central plains.
He didn't go too far killing his uncle's family, for he was taking precautions. However, when he saw his uncle returning from getting wine, he went back and killed his uncle so the uncle wouldn't report them in revenge. That was a bit too far in my opinion.

Yes I feel he went a bit far demanding retribution for his fathers death, he was very hateful and wanted simple revenge, if not for the threat of Liu Bei and Lu Bu near him, there is no telling what depths he would have gone to.

I feel kinda bad for laughing at loud when he killed all those people... --- Now, I think Cao Cao did what was necessary. No, they werne't always right, but, hey, if it gets the job done, right? I admire him for doing the wrong things to get things done, because he knew they were wrong but he took the risk. I admire people like that... Yeah, killing the dude whe he was on the donkey coming home wasn't too cool, though... though I did kinda laugh (I laugh too much). Oh well... I guess I'm not a very nice person.

Cao Cao got no job done! he never united China. Or did he defeat Wu or Shu. were it not for his generals he would of been beaten big time.

True he was often lucky to escape with his life at many battles, almost like he really did have a mandate from heaven. But he did lay the groundwork for his sons to act upon, and later his strategists to also act upon too.

The part where Cao cao killed his family wasn't nice... No... that wasn't very nice at all... And Cao Cao got further than Liu Bei and Sun Quan ever did...

I guess being ruthless gets the job done, and nice guys really do finish last. There's a quote from Liu Bei in the Romance books(apparantly actually said by Liu Bei too historically) (Romance of the three Kingdoms, Chapter 60)
This shows the feelings of Liu Bei as no other quote does

I admire what Cao Cao accomplished and honor him for his winnings. However, I personally dont like him, especially compared to other rulers. His methods I don't think were honorable, but then again I'm not sure I wouldn't have done the same in his position.

Re-reading these posts I must make the comment that I gritted my teeth everytime Cao Cao escaped his due punishment. damn Guan Yu for his letting him go.
I think Liu Bei's nature was both his best characteristic and his downfall/undoing.

Yeah, I never understood why Guan Yu let him go then... curse their honor-like ways! I blame it on Cao Cao's devious mind and crafty talk. Had Guan Yu knew what was best for his lord he would have slain him. Stupid Cao Cao.
