Fifth Dawn is the second and final expansion in the Mirrodin block, with 165 cards - 55 rares, 55 uncommons, and 55 commons. It is a continutation of the storyline from Mirrodin and Darksteel. The pre-release is on May 22-23, 2004. Fifth Dawn will be for sale on June 4, 2004.
There is a mechanic called "Sunburst" on a handful of Fifth Dawn cards. It appears only on artifacts, and states "~this~ comes into play with a charge counter or +1/+1 counter for every different color mana used to play it." In other words, the artifacts are coming to life, and the more "real" they are, the better they get. Along these theme, there are cards that have as an alternate mana cost. "You may pay rather than pay this spell's mana cost." So far we know of a five card cycle of creatures with Sunburst - one of each color. They are called Bringers of the Dawns, and each costs 7 colorless and 2 of that color. They are 5/5 trample creatures with powerful upkeep abilities. Another cycle is the beacons - powerful spells that shuffle into your library instead of going into your graveyard. Some other possible keywords, themes, or cycles are "cogs" and "suns". The Fifth Dawn "Orb of Insight" will help us figure out more when WotC puts it up on their site in early May. Affinity, equipment, modular, and entwine continue into Fifth Dawn, with a few twists. There are no more indestructible cards.
