Since this really doesn't fit in the other massive discussions we've been having, I thought I'd start it in another topic, but what are your favourite single appearances of repeat foes/villains/monsters? These would include any who've appeared more than once, even those like Sil since he appeared in two serials.
To start, I'll make a list of my own:
Daleks - Genesis of the Daleks
This was the first serial I can remember watching in its entirety, and it stuck with me. As a child I was entirely and totally taken with the idea of Daleks! I was terrified and enthralled at the same time.
Cybermen - The Wheel in Space or The Invasion
A close one, I couldn't decide between these two. They were both so good that I felt they both deserved inclusion. They both terrified me!
Autons - Terror of the Autons
I wish more had been done with the Autons, but this was undeniably their best moment.
The Master - The Daemons
Soft spot for Miss Hawthorne, being someone quite like her m'self. The Master was absolutely magnificently ridiculous in this, and I loved it.
Sea-Devils - The Sea-Devils
Once again a slim selection, but this was the better of the two appearances.
Silurians - The Silurians
They were actually really very scary in this one. I remember them burning through the wall behind the Doctor at the end of one episode and scaring the heeby-jeebies out of me!!
Yeti - The Web of Fear
This one was more terrifying than its predecessor and, to boot, gave us the UNIT concept.
Ice Warriors - The Curse of Peladon
This one was a hard one, because I like 'The Monster of Peladon' so much too, and that one throws you off because you don't expect the double-cross; 'Curse' was more interesting to me, though, because it was just as unexpected and also painted the Ice Warriors in an honourable and respectable (while still terrifying) manner.
Omega - Arc of Infinity
While I think 'The Two Doctors' is a much more enjoyable episode, I think Omega is handled better in 'Arc' than in 'The Two Doctors'.
The Guardians - Enlightenment
I'll admit I was never wild about the whole Guardians concept, but I thought 'Enlightenment' illustrated their concept (as well as adding in another level to the Doctor's adventures) extremely well.
Mara - Snakedance
Overall I found 'Snakedance' to be a lot more enjoyable and a lot less pretentious than 'Kinda'. A prime example of the vast difference between first-season Davison and second.
The Rani - Mark of the Rani
So wicked, so plotting, she was done well really in both her appearances, but this one I'm more partial to slightly. I think she clashed better with the sixth Doctor than the seventh.
That's all I can think of at the moment...so what are yours and why? Do let me know...I think it's very interesting to think of!!
Love!
