just recently after watching TV, they just released one after another, of those anti smoke adds. you know, the ones with them all standing outside a cigaert building and all droping dead with "smokeing kills" on their shirts, or the ones with people talking about how they got lung cancer and such, well heres a question for ya..looking at how stupid and irasponcible most of todays youth and teens are, you you think this stuff will really work? i'd say..No, no it wont, they are most likey just wasting time with those Anti-ads as i really doubt anyone pay attention to it. its like my Grade 9 teacher said "sure they see it, but they dont care. they just think it wont happen to them" smart guy too

Unfortunately it's that mentality of 'it will never happen to me' that is the cause of it not working. All of the adds are true, but the age today is very arrogant. Same thing goes to drinking and driving, stds, and most importantly AIDS. Some people know of the concequences but they have their heads to far up their reads that they think it can NEVER happen to them.
It's sad to see youths kill themselves because of their own arrogance.

In my opinion anti smoking ads should target kids better , show them puffing and huffing after running up a few stairs, show their 'girlfriends' winching when the 'guy' attempts a kiss with 'smoky breath' and worst of all, show how smoking affects male sexual parts, that'll get them stopping like crazy.

They've tried the same kinds of ads many times before and they didn't work, and they are unlikely to work this time. Kids are never in to see the ads.
Smokers also lack the willpower to quit. It is human nature not to like change and this results in smokers continuing to smoke - as they feel comfortable with what they have been doing in the past.

Well I smoke I'm ashamed to say. Ive only been smoking for just over a year. Smoking ads do not work me and my mates all knew what we were doing when we started and if we do get lung cancer its our own stupid fault. We are poisaning our lungs with a big burst of carbon manoxide but we chose to do that. Smoking does have its benefits it relaxes you when your stressed or annoyed.
If the government was really that bothered about getting people to stop smoking they should make smoking illegal. They won't do because the government makes loads of money from the tax they put on them.

how bout the one with the waitress that says she never smoked, but got lung cancer anyway. that just puts in my head 'hey i might as well smoke, i'm gonna get it anyway.' of course i live in ny where smoking is now banned just about everywhere indoors. we should just tell kids that smoking is kewl and that all adults do it, then they will rebel against smoking and see it as un cool cuz mom and dad r doing it. and chew on this: big tobacco will probably NEVER be taken down or regulated or held responsible 4 anything, why? because the friggin' hypocritical politicians get so many campaign contributions from big tobacco www.commoncause.org/publications/price/tobacco.htm

Well, all people need to pay attention to the ads. Most people haven't had a relative die of lung cancer yet. Think about that next time you puff on a death stick. Smoking + You =

They won't do because the government makes loads of money from the tax they put on them. Look back and when the USA prohibited Alchohol. What happened then? People only tried harder to get it... same thing will happen should the US ban cigarrettes. And I'm glad you take responsibility for your actions. I'm so sick of the people who smoke, get cancer, and blame the government for not telling them that smoking was bad. With all the signs, you'd think they would know. It's common sense to me, actually, like coffee being hot.

I do not think that we will ever be able to convince people not to smoke, especially by anti-smoking adds. However, I do not think its wasted money either. (The important thing is it is not my money). I'm pretty sure increased adds leads to eventual decrease (even if it is small) in smokers. Personally I like to see them just to see how smokers I know react to them.
I just think we should just tax the hell out of them.
