Well I think I am the last person to still see the film Troy, I plan to see it soon but SW and 'other things' got in the way of my movie going lately (still have to see Van Helsing too)
Anyone got any good things to comment on about these films, or indeed other upcoming movies too, dont worry about spoiling it for me, I really just want to hear it meets all the hype that preceded it.
So any opinions on the recent movie Troy what was good? What was bad? What was missing? Lets see how many of you make good film reviewers...

Well, in the past month I've seen Van Helsing at least three times and Shrek 2 twice, both of which I thought were EXCELLENT movies (duh, otherwise I wouldn't go SEE them more then once).
I enjoyed Van Helsing a lot for the way they merged all of the old time classics into one (AND they made sense, though why the vampires morphed in gargoyle-like creatures I'll enver understand, unless it's to make the final fight sene look right). Vampires (Count Dracula and his three brides), werewolves, Frankenstien's monster, Igor, even Mr. Hyde (erm... I didn't realize it was him the first time; some bozo behind me started yapping on the phone during that part, so I thought it was Quasimodo for some reason). I love the way they blended...
And Hugh Jackson... oh gosh, he's so.... well, HOT... sorry, but I'm a girl, and he's actually a REAL person, so let me drool!
As for Shrek 2... one of the few sequels that I think surpass the original, at least in my opinion. I think it's the fact that Antonio Banderas and John Cleese (MONTY PYTHON) are in it that helps it sem better for me, and the fact they added one of my favorite songs in there ('I Need a Hero'). I even got a Puss-N-Boots Plushie at Orlando, because I love that movie so much. Ahhhh, that movie's so funny.

Just saw Shrek 2 today, (wasnt the planned movie, just worked out that way for time) it was another fun filled romp with some of the best voice acting and CG once again that entertained us all so much in the first.
The sequal managed to be different enough without forgeting the original film and the winning formula that made it enjoyable, I also really enjoyed the music too, some very timely tunes in there.
Puss in Boots was very funny the cute killer cat with the big eyes, add Antonio Banderas and John Cleese's voices to the mix that makes an enjoyable experience all round.
I highly reccomend this film to anyone who enjoyed the first one, I havent laughed so much in a movie in a long time. ;D

Well I finally saw Van Helsing tonight, I thought it was a great action film with lots going on,(sometimes a bit too much going on) but the film never seemed to drag and Hugh Jackman made a quite strong lead character I thought. And Kate Beckinsale made for a very strong female lead, I thought she did better with this film than the 'other' vampire film she did Underworld and apparantly that accent of hers is real. (In Van Helsing)
The special effects where amazing, the morphs of the three brides from human to half vampire to full flying harpy on wings was seemless and well well done, I thought it was good to leave the Count himself becoming full Vamp till near the end of the movie as that made for a spectacular battle with the 'warewolf' at the end. The Warewolf effects were better than underworld too.
The idea that Van Helsing was an man that fought evil eternally was barely touched on, it would have been nice to have a bit more focus on where he came from and his history, ah well maybe they are saving that for the DVD edition, but a bit more storyline would have been good.
Humourwise Jackman was great, although I wondered if the James Bond quips were going to start when we saw the 1899 version of 'Q's lab.
Great film, now whats next I wonder...

Heh guess what movie I just saw? I just saw it last night and while it was quite good it did have those expected Peter Parker sappy moments and a few more libertys with the basic story of spidey too. Ah should I say the words Spoiler Alert, Do not read any further!! here? Spiderman saves an entire streetcar full of New Yorkers sans mask and everybody sees him. Dr Ock sees Peter without mask, as does Harry Osborn, Mary Jane and maybe a few others too....Does Spiderman even have a secret identity anymore? Or should I attribute this to Tobey Maguire wanting his mug on camera even more than before. Maybe all New Yorkers do have a heart of gold except that one that was going to sell Spideys costume on Ebay, I agree though even J. Jonah Jameson seemed more loveable than the guy you really wanted to see Spidey web-hang from somewhere really high. The animated arms of Dr Ock really made me wonder how much better special effects can get, I now cannot tell what is real and what is CG anymore the fight scenes are terrific here (the subway/steetcar train one being my personal favourite) but Alfred Molina as Dr. Otto Octavius/Doc Ock is the real star here he carried the part of good scientist gone wrong better than I ever thought it could be done. Spiderman losing his powers and briefly hanging up the costume to try to get his own life going has been done many times in the comics 40 odd years, but the problem seemed in the mind more this time, when Spidey fell with no web, I instantly thought "web cartridges" somebody didnt load them, but then I remembered they dont use these now in the genetic altered spiderman. Oh and I was really hoping that Doc Ock would drop a car on that woman singing that old sixties spidey cartoon theme music but then maybe everyone else thought she was funny. Look its a great film with some fantastic fight scenes, excellent special effects and some strong character development, I am just a jaded comic book fan from yesteryear who wanted maybe a bit more than he got out of Spiderman 2.

OK, UK cinemas seem to be getting films very late. Troy and Shrek 2 are new releases here. Never heard of 'Van Helsing'. Going to see Spiderman 2 when it [eventually] comes out.
I just went to watch troy a few days ago, and was subconsciously comparing everything to ROTK. I initially looked at it and thought '50,000 greeks..wow, thats nothing compared to Cao Cao's numbers at Chi Bi', but then I relised t is a lot coming from a population that was perhaps 20x smaller than Wei's. Some of the characters have equivalents in ROTK too;
Agamemnon - Yuan Shao Agamemnon's brother - Yuan Shu All the other greek lords - All the other RTK lords Oddyseus (sp?) - Liu Bei Achilles - Guan Yu (I would say Lu Bu, except hes not with Yuan Shao) Ajax - Zhang Fei King of Troy - Dong Zhuo ( I don't think they were quite the good guys in real life) Hector - Hua Xiong (not Lu Bu, because he gets beaten by Achilles - Guan Yu) Paris - can't think of anyone.
Anyway, what I wanted to ask is - Does anybody know if Agamemnon really died in the battle, or if achilles rally hated him? I'm not even sure if it was Paris who shot Achiles.

I liked this one, very interesting in the pulling along of the plot sequence, they left enough of it out to keep it twisting, but put enough in for you to figure it out...Don't want to give any spoilers, but yeah, it's another Will Smith (Who I'm very impressed with as an actor, the more he does) summer hit.

King Arthur
I just saw the movie tonight, and i thought it was a wonderful interpetation of the King Arthur legend, I have never heard of this Roman Commander storyline before but it suited the feel of the movie very nicely, I went into this movie just expecting to see a slightly new version of the old Le Morte D Arthur tale, but instead I was treated to a powerful film that I never found a bit predictible.
This movie has some of the best swordplay and action scenes I have seen in a long time, you actually care for each Knight as they are slain and ladylike Guinevere as a warrior queen was fine really she was portrayed quite well as a realistic character and Celts and Picts both had women warriors, and they were often naked.
Go to this film with an open mind and a desire to be entertained and you wont be disapointed. Oh and leave the history books behind.

King ArthurI just saw the movie tonight, and i thought it was a wonderful interpetation of the King Arthur legend, I have never heard of this Roman Commander storyline before but it suited the feel of the movie very nicely, I went into this movie just expecting to see a slightly new version of the old Le Morte D Arthur tale, but instead I was treated to a powerful film that I never found a bit predictible. Oh, my, I humbly must disagree on this one, Iain-sama. I thought it was an absolutely horrid interpretation of the Arthurian legend, yet they may have had a decent idea with renaming it and not having the hopes up of longtime fans of the stories. Also, for Arthur to have been a man of such unshakeable conviction and devout faith, the actor playing him just didn't do it for me. This movie has some of the best swordplay and action scenes I have seen in a long time, you actually care for each Knight as they are slain and ladylike Guinevere as a warrior queen was fine really she was portrayed quite well as a realistic character and Celts and Picts both had women warriors, and they were often naked. Ok...and on that point, again I must humbly disagree. I thought that if I were in Arthur's position there, I might have slain a couple of my 'loyal knights' myself! And did I hear Galahad and Lancelot kinda around the same age? That's terrible! But then, that's that "adaptation", so I add that to renaming needs! The one character I truly liked in the movie was Guinevere, scary though that may be. I perhaps hated Lancelot the most, then Guinevere in the old series, but Lancelot at least had many noble deeds to partially redeem his foolishness, though, in my humble opinion, nothing he could have done would have redeemed that unholy act with his commander's wife. Go to this film with an open mind and a desire to be entertained and you wont be disapointed. Oh and leave the history books behind. THAT - I can agree with....as in the theory of "Don't see him as King Arthur, see him as Arturious the Roman Guy!"
