Darksteel is the first expansion set in the Mirrodin block. It is the first expansion set to contain 165 cards (instead of the previous 143). There are 55 rares, 55 uncommons, and 55 commons. Darksteel continues the new storyline involving Glissa. The set is focused upon artifacts, like Mirrodin. The prerelease tournaments will be held January 24th, 2004. Cards will be officially for sale within two weeks of the prerelease.
Darksteel contains interesting variations on the Equipment, Imprint, Affinity, and Entwine mechanics introduced in Mirrodin. A new mechanic is Modular, which is found on artifact creatures, letting them transfer their +1/+1 counters to another artifact creature when they die. The reminder text is:
Modular n (This comes into play with n +1/+1 counters on it. When it's put into a graveyard, you may put its +1/+1 counters on target artifact creature.)
Another new mechanic is Indestructible, which is found on permanents and makes them immune to everything except sacrificing and being removed from game. The reminder text is close to this: (Indestructible permanents can't be destroyed by damage or destroy effects.)
The spoiler is divided by color (W-U-B-R-G-Gold-Artifact-Land) and then is sorted alphabetically.
